Sometimes, especially when exporting and importing elements between different models, a model may end up containing duplicates of the same modeling element. The Duplicate Element Management in the Navigator view can be used to show which elements are duplicated and to replace the duplicates.

To view duplicate elements in the Navigator view:

1.Open the Navigator view.

2.Click the Custom Views button. The View Settings dialog will open.

3.Click New.

4.Give the view a Name.

5.Switch to the Columns tab.

6.Add Symbol a column to the view.

7.Similarly, add a Base model element column to the view, so you can see if an element is inherited from a base model.

8.Switch to the Elements tab.

9.On the Hierarchy section, select Duplicate Element Management.

10.On the Additional Elements section, select the types of elements you want to include in the view.

11.On the Duplicate Matching Options section, select the way duplicates are searched for:

Match by Name: Duplicate elements are shown if they have identical names. Empty names are ignored. If the Match case check box is selected, the search is case sensitive.

Match by Symbol: Duplicate elements are shown if one of them comes from base model and they have similar symbols, for example "SYMBOL" and "SYMBOL_1".

Match by Custom Attributes: Duplicate elements are shown if a match between the Source Model Id Attribute (an External Model type custom attribute) and Imported Object Id Attribute (a Number or Text type custom attribute) custom attributes are found.

When the Navigator view shows duplicates, the duplicate elements can be replaced by right-clicking the element with which you wish to replace the duplicates and selecting Replace All Duplicated from the pop-up menu.
