Before starting to set these properties it is important to carefully plan the effort based on actual needs. Practical tips are:

Focus on certain parts of the whole process in order to be able to compare different combinations of values properly.

Consider creating a separate process model for simulation purposes, processes made for communicating usually do not have the right level of detail or may have logical inconsistencies.

Simplify parts that do not directly affect the problem area.

Plan how you get the execution times and resource needs for different activities.

If empirical data is missing for a certain activity, use common sense, as it usually provides adequate accuracy for the simulation.

With proper planning a lot of work can be saved. In addition, it eases the analysis of simulation results, as the amount of result data is smaller.
