QPR Modeling Client creates and uses three kinds of files: model files, backup files and template files.

A QPR Modeling Client model is saved as one file. The extension for model files created by different editions of the QPR Modeling Client are ".qprxpm" for QPR EAXpress, ".qprdam" for QPR EnterpriseArchitect and QPR ProcessDesigner, and ".qpream" for QPR EnterpriseArchitect".

Model Files

A model can be moved or copied to another computer by simply delivering it e.g. using E-mail or USB memory stick. When moving a model file certain things should be kept in mind. Firstly, texts on diagrams may look different on the other computers if used fonts are not available. Secondly, links to information item locations may not work if the information item cannot be found or opened in the new environment.

Sharing Model Files

Sharing of models is allowed in QPR Modeling Client. Two users can simultaneously work on the same model, although it has to be opened read-only for one of them so that simultaneously saved changes may not corrupt the model. If the model is opened in read-only mode, changes to it can be made, but the changed model must be saved with a different name.

Controlling the use of Model Files

The model files are protected against unauthorized use. File models can be protected with a password.

EA_iconPD_iconOpening a Server model requires a valid user name and password.

A Server model can have several users, each with their own password and different rights for accessing the model. The administrators of the model can create and modify the users and their rights respectively. The following features of QPR Modeling Client are accessible only for administrator users:

Backup Files

Every time a model file is saved, QPR Modeling Client creates a backup file of the old model file. Automatic backup can be turned off in the Options dialog. The extension for backup files is ".bak". If you want to revert to the old model, open the backup file and save it with the appropriate extension (see above).

Template Files

QPR Modeling Client makes use of template files, which are models with the exception that they do not contain the changes log and information about open views. User rights can be optionally included in templates as well. The extension for template files are as follows: ".qprxpt" for QPR EAXpress, ".qprdat" for QPR ProcessDesigner and QPR EnterpriseArchitect, and ".qpreat" for QPR EnterpriseArchitect. Template files can be created and used in the Modeling Options dialog. Template files can be used to store and deliver the preferred modeling options, settings or parts of a model.
