Shapes are freely definable shapes that can be added to the Hierarchy Views and the Dashboards view. Shapes are view specific, i.e. in order to use the same shapes in multiple views, the shape must be added separately to all desired views. Shape types, on the other hand, are global in the scope of a model and they can be defined in the Modeling Options window.
