You can attach elements to other elements if you have enabled this in the element type dialog (e.g Process Step Type Dialog or Custom Element Type Dialog). Note that you have to allow attaching of elements separately for each process step type or custom element type. In addition, the element to be attached must have "Allow attaching to elements" enabled and the element being attached to must have "Allow attached elements" enabled in order for the attaching to be possible.

To attach a process step to another process step, select an existing process step and drag it on the border of the target (parent) element. Release the mouse button when the target element's border becomes red. The process step is then connected to the element instance. You can also attach multiple elements at a time by selecting the process steps and dragging them on the border of the target element.

When you have attached the elements, they are now connected so that if you move the parent element, also all attached elements will move. You can move the attached element to any location inside the parent element. However, if you move the attached element away from the parent element, the attachment is released.

You can also resize the attached element. When resizing, the size increases or decreases in proportion to the center of the attached element in all directions.

If you want to copy both the parent element and the attached element(s) to a new model, you have to select both the parent element and the attached element(s) before copying. They will remain attached after they have been pasted to a target model if the "Allow attached elements" option is enabled also in the target model.

You cannot attach elements to elements which have been attached to other elements.

You can view the list of attached elements you have created in the Process Step Dialog of the parent element.

To remove an attachment, drag the attached element away from the parent element and release the mouse. The attachment is then released.
